SANTA MONICA, Calif. (AP) - A Southern California man is in critical condition after firing several rounds at a cab that had just dropped him off at his Santa Monica residence and then shooting himself in the head.

Santa Monica police Sgt. Cody Green tells City News Service the disgruntled passenger and cab driver got into a dispute over the payment for the ride Wednesday at about 11:30 p.m.

The passenger went inside his home, came out and fired several shots at the cab. Authorities say he then went back inside and shot himself in the head.

The man was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. He has not been identified.

The cab driver was not injured.
