VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) - Virginia Beach police are searching for a man that escaped their custody shortly after he was arrested.

WVEC-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1QJG4xb ) that police department said officers tried to conduct a traffic stop just after midnight Thursday, but the driver didn’t stop and fled the area. A short time later, the officers found the vehicle wrecked a few blocks away.

Police say the officers apprehended the driver, Johnny Rondell Caffee, after a short pursuit. But when they were investigating the vehicle crash scene, Caffee freed himself from the back of the patrol car and fled on foot.

Authorities say that Caffee is wanted on several changes. They say he is not considered to be a threat to public safety.
