SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - It’s a chilly start to the holiday shopping season in South Dakota.

Temperatures were in the teens and single digits as shoppers headed out to the stores on Black Friday.

The day after Thanksgiving is generally considered the kickoff to the holiday shopping season. It’s typically the biggest shopping day of the year - the National Retail Federation expects nearly 100 million people to shop.

Carolina Andrade drove from Sisseton to Fargo, North Dakota, to shop. She usually doesn’t go shopping on Black Friday, but told The Associated Press good deals brought her out this year.

Some stores opened Thursday night. Corrine Truebenbach of Aberdeen shopped at Herberger’s on Thanksgiving evening. She told the American News her family spent an hour after their holiday meal planning their shopping.
