SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - An environmental advocate for the Conservation Law Foundation will become the next Casco baykeeper in January.

Friends of Casco Bay says it has chosen Ivy Frignoca of Cumberland, Maine, as the new baykeeper. Frignoca has been working as the law foundation’s Oceans, Clean Water and Clean Air Advocate for New England.

Baykeeper Joe Payne served from 1991 until early this year. Friends of Casco Bay says the baykeeper is “the chief spokesperson for the health of Casco Bay.”

Frignoca has lived in Casco Bay’s watershed for 20 years. She focuses on issues like ocean and coastal acidification with the Conservation Law Foundation.
