BOISE, Idaho (AP) - State authorities are continuing to investigate the fatal shooting of a west-central Idaho rancher who arrived with a rifle at a highway crash scene involving the rancher’s bull just as two sheriff’s deputies prepared to kill the injured animal.

Idaho State Police on Tuesday asked any witnesses to contact detectives.

Adams County Sheriff Ryan Zollman says the shooting Sunday occurred about 150 yards from where a Subaru struck the massive bull on U.S. Highway 95, a main north-south route in the state.

Idaho State Police say rancher Jack Yantis and both deputies fired their weapons, but details haven’t been released. Police say one deputy sustained a minor injury. Yantis died at the scene.

Police say the bull endangered emergency responders.

Both Subaru occupants were flown to a hospital. Their names haven’t been released.
