BEAVERTON, Ore. (AP) - A Japanese company that makes diving suits has chosen the Portland area for its North American headquarters.

Mobby’s USA announced Tuesday that it will operate from an office and warehouse in Beaverton.

North American General Manager Mark Ross tells the Oregonian (https://bit.ly/1ROu9LA ) that Mobby’s maintained a U.S. headquarters in Texas from the late 1980s to 2004. He says the company left the United States to focus on its Japan business because of economic conditions.

For at least the next year, Ross will be the sole employee working in the Beaverton office.

Mobby’s chose Oregon after company officials attended a “Doing Business in Oregon” seminar in Tokyo in April. Company leaders visited Oregon this summer and talked with Beaverton’s mayor and the state’s recruitment team before choosing Beaverton over the Seattle region.
