WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) - Police in Winston-Salem are investigating the shooting death of a man during a robbery attempt at a jewelry store.
Police said in a statement that officers were called to a shooting around 3:30 p.m. Monday. While they responded they got a report of a robbery attempt at a nearby jewelry store.
Officers found a man who appeared to have been shot to death. He was identified as 30-year-old Matthew Shawon Elliott of Statesville.
Police said it appears three suspects entered the jewelry store and confronted customers and employees with guns. Police say an manager in the business shot at one of the suspect and the other two suspects fled.
Officers have not released the name of the person who shot the suspect. There was no word on possible charges.
