SAN PABLO, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say a man who was shot while driving on a San Francisco Bay Area freeway was hospitalized.

The Oakland Tribune reports (https://bayareane.ws/1k7NWeP ) Monday that San Pablo police and California Highway Patrol officers responded to a report of a collision and possible shooting Monday afternoon on Interstate-80.

A man with gunshot wounds was found inside of a vehicle stopped on the shoulder of the highway.

Authorities say he was transported to John Muir Medical Center in nearby Walnut Creek and was in critical, but stable, condition Monday night.

His name and age were not released. What prompted the shooting was not yet known. The case remains under investigation. No arrests had been made Tuesday.
