PONCHATOULA, La. (AP) - A railroad crossing is back open after an Amtrak train headed to Chicago and an 18-wheeler crashed in Ponchatoula.

Ponchatoula Police say the accident happened just after 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Pine Street crossing on Highway 51. That’s about a mile south of the city limits in an area bordering the Manchac swamp. Police Chief Bry Layrisson says there are no crossing arms at the location.

Officials say none of the train’s 83 passengers were injured. The train’s engineer was taken to an area hospital as a precaution. The driver of the 18-wheeler was not hurt.

Officials haven’t said what may have caused the crash, but the investigation is ongoing.
