COLFAX, La. (AP) - A 21-year-old Pineville man has been arrested for allegedly kicking in the door of a community center on a church’s property in Grant Parish.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents, U.S. Forest Service enforcement officers and sheriff’s deputies investigated.

In a news release Tuesday, authorities said wildlife agents followed a vehicle to the end of a road and then heard a loud noise near a church about 10:30 p.m. on Oct. 30. Moments later, a vehicle driven by Charles A. Melancon, 21, approached. Agents asked Melancon about the noise and he said he heard gunshots coming from the woods.

Agents later found the community center’s door forced open and the door jamb broken. Melancon was later stopped on a nearby highway and, during the stop, admitted breaking into the center by kicking in the door.

Melancon was booked with unauthorized entry and simple criminal damage to property into the Grant Parish Jail. If convicted, he could face up to a $1,000 fine and six years in jail for each offense.

It was not immediately known if he has an attorney.
