KENNEWICK, Wash. (AP) - The trial of a man accused of fatally shooting three people in a Benton County orchard is underway, with opening statements set for Wednesday.

The Tri-City Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1Mwc1SG ) that jury selection for the trial of 24-year-old Francisco Resendez Miranda began Monday.

Prosecutors say Resendez Miranda killed 23-year-old Abigail Torres-Renteria, 19-year-old Victoria Torres and 22-year-old David Perez-Saucedo. The bodies of the Pasco residents were found in August 2014 in a field 15 miles from Resendez Miranda’s apartment.

During a synopsis of the case to potential jurors, the judge said Torres-Renteria was pregnant at the time of her death.

Court documents show the killings may have been in retaliation for a break-in at the apartment the night before.
