TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - Tuscaloosa police are investigating a video that appears to show a university student beating a cat with a belt.

Police spokeswoman Lt. Teena Robinson told The Tuscaloosa News ( https://bit.ly/MKDHvj ) Tuesday that the department was investigating the video posted on social media.

The video shows a person grabbing a cat by the neck and then hitting the animal repeatedly with a belt. The video also showed what appeared to be cat vomit on the bed.

The University of Alabama put a statement on Twitter saying the university was aware of the video and the individual had been referred to law enforcement and University of Alabama Office of Student Conduct.
