PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - The University of Rhode Island has a new head of the university’s George & Anne Ryan Institute for Neuroscience.

The Providence Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1P82N5G ) the university announced on Tuesday that Paula Grammas, a former executive director of the Garrison Institute on Aging at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, will serve as the executive director of the Institute. Grammas will also serve as the Thomas M. Ryan Professor of Neuroscience.

Grammas has researched how blood vessels and inflammation contribute to diseases - such as Alzheimer’s and other diseases in which the nervous system degenerates.

The Ryan Institute was completed in November 2013 using a $15 million donation from former CVS Health chairman and chief executive officer Thomas Ryan. Ryan graduated from URI in 1975.
