FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say two people were killed and a third seriously injured in a collision caused when the driver of a stolen pickup broadsided two cars.

The Fresno Bee reports (https://bit.ly/20tZcCD) Wednesday that the crash happened following an aborted pursuit by law enforcement.

When officers attempted to stop the driver early Tuesday, he didn’t yield, triggering the chase on southbound Highway 41. But officers soon ended the pursuit.

The crash followed.

The driver of the stolen pickup, identified as 19-year-old Mitchell Kauffman, of Fresno, had moderate injuries. Both Kaufman and the driver of a BMW that was hit were airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center. The driver of the BMW suffered major injuries.

Killed were a 51-year-old man and the 20-year-old passenger in Kauffman’s pickup truck. Authorities say Kauffman will face multiple felony charges.
