BIG LAKE, Alaska (AP) - Two Wasilla residents were seriously injured Tuesday morning when a semi tractor-trailer crashed into their pickup on the Parks Highway near Big Lake.

Alaska State Troopers say 72-year-old Carl Wilbur of Wasilla was driving the semi south at Mile 51 when he slowed to avoid another vehicle that had pulled onto the highway. The semi jackknifed.

A northbound pickup driven by 68-year-old Beverly Allen Marple collided with the big truck.

Marple suffered life-threatening injuries and was trapped inside the truck. Emergency responders extricated her and transported her to a hospital.

A passenger, 71-year-old Allen Marple, also suffered serious injuries and was transported for treatment.

Troopers took a call on the crash just after 11 a.m.

Wilbur was not injured.
