MINOT, N.D. (AP) - The attorney for a Las Vegas woman accused of bringing a 14-year-old girl to North Dakota for prostitution says statements she made to authorities shouldn’t be allowed at trial.

Defense attorney Robert Martin says authorities illegally searched the hotel room Tayari Meadows was in when she was arrested in a sting operation in April, violating her rights.

Prosecutors say police believed illegal business was going on in the room and feared for the safety of the 14-year-old girl.

Meadows has pleaded not guilty to a human trafficking charge that could land her in prison for life.

Judge Todd Cresap will rule later on the motion to suppress evidence in the case.
