HOUMA, La. (AP) - Next time Bayou Boeuf volunteer firefighters respond to a call, they’ll be wearing all-new gear.

The Courier reports (https://bit.ly/1P96GHx) 5 Alarm Fire Apparatus in Bayou Blue delivered 12 sets of bunker gear - coat, pants, helmet, hood, gloves and boots - to the fire station Monday night. The fire department also has 18 new sets of air tanks and masks and 18 extra air bottles.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency awarded a $138,368 grant in September 2014 through the Assistance to Firefighters Grants program. Fire Chief Bryan Zeringue said his department raised the remaining $7,282 needed for the new equipment.

Zeringue said the new equipment is durable, reflective and compatible with that of other surrounding departments. His firefighters can train with other agencies now that they have current equipment.
