SOUTHOLD, N.Y. (AP) - Coast Guard crews looking for a possible missing person off Long Island have suspended their search after covering more than 890 square miles in 26 hours.

The search began Tuesday afternoon after the Coast Guard learned of an overturned kayak off East Point on Plum Island. Crews in a sailboard and helicopter began looking a possible person in the water.

The Coast Guard said Wednesday it is unclear whether anyone was in distress, although the 12-foot kayak showed signed of being occupied. Fishing poles and food were found aboard it.
