BERLIN, Pa. (AP) - State police say a Pennsylvania man took $700 from his estranged wife’s bedroom during a child-custody exchange.

The (Somerset) Daily American (https://bit.ly/1Qcj6h5 ) reports 34-year-old Stephen Shaffer, of Bedford, surrendered Tuesday on charges including burglary and theft.

State police filed them stemming from an incident Oct. 11 in Brothersvalley Township, where Shaffer went for the custody exchange to his wife’s residence.

Police say Shaffer doesn’t have permission to be in the residence, but entered anyway and left with $700 taken from his wife’s bedroom.

Police say Shaffer told them his uncle owns the home and gave him permission to be there, but police say the uncle didn’t back up Shaffer’s claim.

Online court records don’t list an attorney for Shaffer, who faces a preliminary hearing Nov. 12.
