MCKEES ROCKS, Pa. (AP) - Police say a driver ran a stop sign and hit a school crossing guard after saying glare from the sun obscured his view.

McKees Rocks police did not immediately release the names of the guard - who wasn’t crossing children at the time - or the driver.

The incident happened at a busy intersection near Sto-Rox High School about 7:45 a.m. Wednesday.

Security video from nearby business captured the accident and showed the driver not stopping until he struck the guard in the right hip, tossing her onto the car’s fender and then onto the street.

Officer Erica Lennon says the driver will likely be cited or criminally charged.

Lennon says the crossing guard was taken to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh complaining of back pain.

The guard is employed by the borough.
