CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - A former Charlotte minister has been sentenced after pleading guilty to charges of sexual assault involving children.

The Charlotte Observer reports (https://bit.ly/1HpFlcc ) 65-year-old Orland Augusto Caldera pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree sex offense and five counts of indecent liberties with a child. A Mecklenburg County Superior Court judge sentenced Caldera to a minimum 14 years in prison.

Caldera was an associate pastor at Memorial United Methodist Church. He served the Spanish-speaking population of the church.

Prosecutors say he was arrested in August 2014 after two girls at a church gathering told their parents that Caldera had kissed them in a way that made them feel uncomfortable. Prosecutors say four other girls later told police that Caldera had fondled them.

Caldera served at the church for about five years.
