FALL RIVER, Mass. (AP) - A young city councilman has ousted Fall River’s mayor.

Mayor Sam Sutter lost to 23-year-old City Councilor Jasiel Corriea, the Fall River Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1Pm4vir).

Corriea captured 52 percent of the vote to Sutter’s 48 percent. City officials say Corriea is likely the city’s youngest elected mayor.

Sutter is a former district attorney elected mayor 11 months ago in a recall vote that ousted then-mayor Will Flanagan.

Officials reported that Tuesday’s turnout was among above-average, at nearly 35 percent.

Corriea has been councilor less than two years. He finished tenth in a race for nine council seats in 2014 and assumed office when first-place winner Cathy Ann Viveiros was tapped as city administrator.

Corriea defeated Sutter in a September primary.
