NEWPORT, R.I. (AP) - The operator of Newport’s historic Fort Adams has a new executive director.

The Newport Daily News reports (https://bit.ly/IX5CGL ) Joe Dias, of Newport, who spent 36 years working with the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management, began serving as the Fort Adams Trust’s executive director on Monday.

Dias replaces Richard Nagele, who left in July after three years. Nagele says the board of directors told him revenues did not grow as expected while he was there.

Dias says he has ideas for increasing revenue, such as extending electricity and water to the fort’s west wall in order to hold more functions. He says the fort could also implement a sky box to offer a high-priced, panoramic view of the harbor, Pell Bridge and the East Passage.
