ATLANTA (AP) - A Georgia Senate task force is recommending that potential cities should go through a more rigorous vetting process before they can incorporate.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution (https://on-ajc.com/1kr70nJ ) reports that the panel on Tuesday recommended potential cities should go through a two-year review process before being approved by the Georgia Legislature.

The senators also suggested requiring an evaluation of the financial impact on the surrounding school systems and governments.

The ideas will be included in a bill for next year’s legislative session.

The discussion comes after seven cities have formed in the metropolitan Atlanta area since 2005 and other communities are considering forming their own cities.
