PHOENIX (AP) - A Glendale woman is accused of child abuse after police found her four children living in unsanitary conditions in her home.

Glendale police say 27-year-old Jillian Elizabeth Wheeler is being held on suspicion of four counts of felony child abuse. She didn’t have a lawyer at her initial court appearance Wednesday.

Officers say they discovered five children between the ages of 3 and 8 living in Wheeler’s home.

Four of the children were Wheeler’s biological children and were in her care and custody. She is separated from her spouse.

A police report says Wheeler’s children and their clothing were dirty, trash was piled in each room, there was rotting trash and food in the kitchen area, bugs all over the inside of the home and no working toilet.
