WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (AP) - A northeastern Pennsylvania father has been convicted of involuntary manslaughter and child endangerment in the death of his infant son last year.

Jurors in Luzerne County deliberated for less than an hour Wednesday before convicting 50-year-old Corey Eckrote of Nanticoke.

Authorities said 2½-month-old Jaxon Eckrote suffocated in February of last year after he became wedged in a recliner cushion and suffocated.

Police said the baby’s mother, 42-year-old Tracey Gonda, fell asleep with the child in her arms after drinking.

She said Eckrote had passed the child to her as she sat in the recliner, but defense attorney Michael Butera challenged the credibility of her testimony.

Gonda pleaded guilty to child endangerment and corruption of minors in September and is to be sentenced later this month.
