NEW ORLEANS (AP) - New Orleans officials say a federal agency has ruled in favor of the city in an appeal over flood insurance rate maps.

The city had filed an appeal with the Federal Emergency Management Agency over 2014 maps that incorrectly placed the Algiers Point area within a flood hazard zone. Officials said those maps had incorrect information regarding the elevation of a road; They also failed to take into account city drainage improvements.

Mayor Mitch Landrieu said in a Tuesday news release that the revision to the flood map will help make flood insurance more affordable for area residents.
