CLEVELAND (AP) - Prosecutors say a Cleveland man has received 28 years in prison after pleading guilty to charges in the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old boy and the attempted shooting of a woman who witnessed the killing.

Twenty-seven-year-old Johnny Wright was sentenced Tuesday in Cleveland for killing Julian Gaines and trying to kill the 25-year-old witness in November 2012. Wright pleaded guilty Oct. 16 to charges that included involuntary manslaughter, aggravated burglary, kidnapping, attempted murder and felonious assault.

Prosecutors say Wright “executed” the teen at a Cleveland apartment building over a dispute that began in a convenience store. Prosecutors say Wright then tried to shoot the witness in front of her two small children but the gun was empty.

Messages left with Wright’s attorneys weren’t returned on Tuesday.
