BARRINGTON, R.I. (AP) - Police are investigating the alleged sexual assault of an 11-year-old girl on a bike path in Rhode Island.

Police Chief John LaCross says the incident took place on the East Bay Bike Path in Barrington in early October, but East Providence police found out two to three weeks later after the girl told her mother.

LaCross tells The Providence Journal (https://bit.ly/1Qb53Iy ) the victim and suspect knew each other. Officers are working to identify a male teenager who they say is a person of interest.
