BRAXTON, Miss. (AP) - Authorities say a Simpson County sheriff’s deputy had minor injuries when he was grazed by a bullet after exchanging gunfire with two burglary suspects.

Department of Public Safety spokesman Warren Strain did not release the deputy’s name.

Strain said deputies responded Wednesday afternoon to a call about a possible burglary in progress in Braxton, about 30 miles south of Jackson.

He said a 35-year-old suspect was shot and airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, and a 21-year-old suspect was taken into custody. Strain said charges were not immediately filed against either man, but an investigation continues.
