BATTLE MOUNTAIN, Nev. (AP) - Lander County authorities are investigating the apparent suicide of a 59-year-old man who shot himself in the emergency room lobby of a Battle Mountain hospital.

Lander County Undersheriff Robert Quick says deputies responded to a report of gunfire at the Battle Mountain General Hospital at about 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Quick said on Wednesday that they found the Battle Mountain man unresponsive and suffering from “an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.”

Emergency crews attempted to resuscitate him but he was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after the deputies arrived.

Quick says no other shots were fired and no other injuries were reported. He says an apparent suicide note was found in the man’s vehicle outside the hospital. His name has not been released and an investigation is continuing.
