PHOENIX (AP) - Westbound Interstate 10 has reopened in central Phoenix after a truck accident snarled traffic during much of the Wednesday morning commute.

The tractor-trailer rig overturned near the interchange of I-10 and Interstate 17. That’s near Sky Harbor International Airport.

Initially one westbound lane remained open but authorities later closed the entire freeway for about an hour to clear the accident scene. Most of the freeway then was reopened as the commute wound down.

The Department of Public Safety says the truck braked suddenly and jackknifed when the driver failed to gradually slow for congestion.

DPS said crews had to clean up a spill of approximately 100 gallons of diesel fuel. The fuel spilled onto the highway and then flowed into a storm drain and the shoulder.

This story has been corrected to reflect that the truck was not a tanker.
