SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (AP) - A fourth case of vandalism aimed at St. Junipero Serra has occurred on the Central Coast.

KSBW-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1NPpk3Z ) that school children arrived at Santa Cruz Mission on Monday to find red paint splattered across the door and graffiti accusing the 18th century Roman Catholic missionary of genocide.

Vandals have targeted Serra since his September canonization.

A statue in the city of Carmel and one at the Carmel mission were vandalized and a statue at the lower Presidio of Monterey was decapitated.

Monterey police Sgt. Ron Blair says officers are not sure if the three Monterey Peninsula incidents are connected.

Santa Cruz police say they have no suspects at this time.

Serra began the system of now-historic missions as Spain moved to settle California in the 1700s.
