ERIE, Pa. (AP) - A 98-year-old man rescued from his burning northwestern Pennsylvania home last month has died of smoke inhalation at a Pittsburgh hospital.

The Erie Times-News (https://bit.ly/1LRIwxu ) reports Vincent Marshall, of Millcreek Township, died Tuesday at UPMC Mercy hospital. The Allegheny County medical examiner confirmed the cause of death.

Marshall had been rescued from the Oct. 28 fire by Millcreek Patrolman Michael Fitzgerald, who was also injured in the fire. He’s been released from UPMC Hamot hospital in Erie, but hasn’t returned to work. Marshall’s wife also escaped the fire unharmed.

Millcreek police were continuing to investigate the cause of the fire.
