INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Authorities say a 14-year-old Indianapolis boy has died from his injuries after a fire earlier this week at his mobile home.

The Wayne Township Fire Department says Tommy Poindexter died Wednesday at a hospital, where he was taken in critical condition after firefighters carried him from the burning trailer early Monday morning. The department says the rescue took about three minutes and the teen had to be resuscitated at the scene because he was unconscious and not breathing.

Firefighters believe a discarded cigarette sparked the blaze and there wasn’t a working smoke detector inside the mobile home.

The family’s dog also was killed in the fire. No one else was home at the time.
