ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Federal authorities say two brothers from upstate New York have been charged with fraudulently obtaining tens of thousands of dollars in dental services from their union’s health care plan.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Albany says 44-year-old Michael VonFricken and 55-year-old John VonFricken, both of Troy, have been charged with health care fraud.

Prosecutors say the younger brother obtained $33,732 in reimbursements from the health plan of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local Union No. 7. Officials say the older brother received $54,600 from the same union plan.

Both men were arraigned Tuesday in federal court and released pending a trial scheduled for Jan. 4 in Albany.

Messages left Thursday with each man’s attorney weren’t immediately returned.
