HAMMOND, La. (AP) - Flag signs blowing in the wind are a common sight in Hammond, and city officials want to see them gone by the end of the month.

The Daily Star reports (https://bit.ly/1Nfu00l) the flag signs are illegal under the Unified Development Code passed by the Hammond City Council in February 2014.

Code Enforcement Officer Bobby Mitchell says the city will take an aggressive approach to have the signs removed.

The signs are commonly called flag signs, are six to seven feet tall and look similar to a boat sail.

Officials say the signs are not allowed in the city. They are not classified as temporary permissible signs.
