RUSTON, La. (AP) - Lincoln Parish School Board members will receive an increase in monthly expense allowance from $400 to $600 effective Jan. 1.

The Ruston Daily Leader (https://bit.ly/1XQEdYo ) reports the board approved a revision Tuesday to its compensation and expenses policy in order to receive the new allowance.

School Board President Otha Anders said it’s the first change in the policy since 1985.

Chief Financial Officer George Murphy says he conducted a survey on severance pay for several North Louisiana school boards and found that Lincoln Parish board members’ allowance was well below average. Murphy says the average statewide compensation was $634 for school board members and $709 for the president.

In addition to the increase for board members, the president will receive an additional $100 monthly allowance.
