ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say a man left his toddler daughter in the car while he robbed a Tampa Bay area convenience store.

St. Petersburg police report that officers responded to the Quickstop store Thursday afternoon following reports of an armed robbery. Witnesses described the suspect’s car, and officers made a traffic stop just minutes later.

Police say the car’s driver was 30-year-old Edward Eric Melendez. Besides having a mask and gun in the car, authorities say his 18-month-old daughter was also present.

Melendez was arrested at the scene. A news release says he faces charges of robbery, felon in possession of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon and child endangerment. Jail records didn’t list an attorney. It wasn’t immediately clear who took custody of the toddler.
