CONWAY, S.C. (AP) - Authorities have identified the Coastal Carolina University student who was shot and killed in an apartment near the university’s campus in Conway.

Horry County Deputy Coroner Tony Hendrick tells local media outlets that 21-year-old Craig Gerald Gray, Jr., was shot about 7 p.m. Wednesday at an apartment complex where mainly students live.

The complex is within walking distance of both Coastal Carolina University and Horry-Georgetown Technical College.

Coastal Carolina issued an alert Wednesday night asking that students stay inside after a blue pickup truck was seen leaving the area. The alert was lifted about four hours later when officials said the area was secure.

No arrests have been reported. Police say there were few witnesses and are asking for the public’s help in finding whoever shot the student.
