PHOENIX (AP) - A 40-year-old man has pleaded guilty in a wrong-way freeway accident in which an off-duty Phoenix Fire Department dispatcher was killed.

Stephen Brant Martin pleaded guilty Thursday in Maricopa County Superior Court to one count of second-degree murder and three of endangerment.

Dispatcher Megan Lange was fatally injured Jan. 27 as she drove home after her shift ended and her vehicle collided head-on with Martin’s vehicle on Interstate 17.

The 26-year-old Lange was a married mother of two young children.

The murder charge said Martin recklessly caused Lange’s death under circumstances showing extreme indifference to human life.

Martin faces a Dec. 8 sentencing.
