MARIETTA, Miss. (AP) - A section of highway in Prentiss County will soon bear a new name.

The Mississippi Department of Transportation says part of Highway 371 will be known as the James C. “Jimmy” Pharr Memorial Highway.

WTVA-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1iDrFns ) a dedication ceremony is scheduled for Friday at 10 a.m. at the McGlaun Community Center in Marietta.

The project was made possible by Senate Bill 2005, which passed during this year’s regular legislative session. Transportation Commissioner Mike Tagert says the recognition is a fitting way to pay tribute to a man who did so much for the town and county.

MDOT will erect and maintain appropriate signs for this section of the highway.
