TYRE, N.Y. (AP) - The team behind a casino planned for New York’s Finger Lakes is pushing back against a new lawsuit filed by a group of local residents opposed to the facility.

Steve Greenberg, a spokesman for Lago Resort and Casino, says Thursday that the lawsuit filed this week in Seneca County is meritless.

The lawsuit alleges that town officials in Tyre failed to properly scrutinize the casino’s environmental impact.

Work on the casino was halted this summer when an appeals court faulted the board’s approval process. Work resumed when the board re-approved the plans.

Greenberg says the new litigation is just an effort to block a project that has “overwhelming local support.”

Lago is one of four casinos planned for upstate New York.
