WOODBRIDGE, Va. (AP) - A Washington man has been arrested after police say he threw his infant daughter down a staircase and assaulted two of the girl’s adult relatives.

Prince William County police say the 7-month-old baby sustained a serious leg injury Tuesday night, while the mother suffered a minor injury when the suspect, 38-year-old James T. Brown, hit her in the head with a glass bottle.

Police spokesman Nathan Probus says Brown forced his way into the mother’s Woodbridge home, fighting with the baby’s 24-year-old mother and a 53-year-old woman who also lives in the house.

Probus says Brown then grabbed the baby and tossed her down the stairs.

Brown has been charged with assault, malicious wounding, burglary and cruelty to a child. It’s unclear whether he has an attorney to comment on the charges.
