SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Police say two suspects are on the loose after a violent home invasion and police chase in a Salt Lake City suburb.

Unified Police Lt. Lex Bell says two men and a woman broke into a Midvale home on Wednesday evening and beat one of the residents with a bat. He says the suspects’ Jeep backed out of the driveway as police arrived and nearly hit two officers.

Bell says the Jeep eventually crashed and two of the suspects ran away. A 35-year-old man stuck in the vehicle was arrested.

Police say a couple in the home locked themselves in a bedroom, but the suspects broke in, kicked in the bedroom door and began beating the man.

The resident was hurt but in fair condition Wednesday night.
