SPARKS, Nev. (AP) - A 19-year-old Reed High School student accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl faces felony charges, including statutory sexual seduction.

Sparks police say Benjamin Duran-Ruiz also was booked Wednesday for suspicion of first-degree lewdness with a child under 14. He was being held Thursday in the Washoe County Jail.

Sparks Police Sgt. Charles Ault says Duran-Ruiz has known the girl since she was in sixth grade.

Alt told the Reno Gazette-Journal (https://tinyurl.com/nbznuqm ) there’s some question whether the alleged sex was consensual. But he says it doesn’t matter because of their age difference, and the crime charged is seduction by a person under 21.

Duran-Ruiz’ bail was set at $2,500. He’s scheduled to appear in Sparks Justice Court on Nov. 12. It wasn’t immediately clear if he’s been appointed a lawyer.
