COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina forward A’ja Wilson will miss the No. 2 Gamecocks exhibition game with Newberry on Friday night because of foot injury.

Coach Dawn Staley said Wilson, the SEC freshman of the year last season, should be ready when the Gamecocks open the season at home on Nov. 13 against No. 6 Ohio State. Staley said she wanted to give Wilson some rest and does not consider the injury serious.

Wilson spent two weeks with a walking boot on her left foot after returning from helping the American team win the FIBA U19 World Championships in July.

Wilson is a 6-foot-5 forward who averaged 13.1 points and 6.6 rebounds as a freshman last season, second on the team in both categories. Wilson led South Carolina with 65 blocks.
