Temple looks to rebound from its first loss, 24-20 at home against No. 8 Notre Dame. The Owls open their final stretch of their regular season with four American Athletic Conference games remaining, and have a two-game lead in the East Division race. Three West Division teams are 4-0 in conference. SMU is at the bottom of the West and still looking for its first AAC win. The Mustangs have played two Top 25 teams this season, losing 56-21 to No. 2 Baylor and 56-37 at No. 5 TCU.


SMU dual-threat QB Matt Davis against the AAC’s top defense. Temple leads the league in total defense (327.2 yards per game), scoring defense (15.8 points per game) and rushing defense (101 yards per game). Davis has thrown for 1,779 yards with 14 touchdowns and only four interceptions, and also leads the Mustangs with 450 yards rushing and seven TDs.

Temple: RB Jahad Thomas is 96 yards shy of becoming the Owls’ first 1,000-yard rusher since 2012, and only the 10th player to do that since 1971 (three players had multiple 1,000-yard seasons).

SMU: Freshman Courtland Sutton is among the AAC’s leading receivers, with 38 catches for 719 yards and a league-best nine touchdowns. His 89.9 yards receiving per game rank second in the league - on 4.8 catches per game. He’s coming off a season-best eight catches for 165 yards.


The two ties in the series came in the 1940s. … Two years ago in Dallas, SMU overcame a 21-point deficit for a 59-49 victory over Temple. … SMU’s losses have come to teams that entered the week with a combined 42-15 record, including three teams still undefeated.
