BALTIMORE (AP) - Police have arrested a 19-year-old Baltimore woman accused in connection with the assault of a 71-year-old retired police officer last month.

Baltimore police say Amia Howard has been charged with conspiracy to commit first-degree attempted murder in the beating of retired officer Thomas Niemiera Sr. Niemiera remains in critical condition at a hospital.

Authorities say Niemiera was beaten Oct. 24 in the city’s Curtis Bay neighborhood.

16-year-old was also arrested last week in connection with the attack.

Online jail records do not indicate whether Howard has an attorney to comment on the charge.
