WARWICK, R.I. (AP) - Work on the reconstruction of the Rhode Island Mall in Warwick is expected to begin soon, as the new owner works through the city’s permitting process.

The Providence Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1HsP0P2 ) city officials are about to issue a demolition permit needed to begin the work. A review by the fire marshal is pending.

Baltimore-based MCB Real Estate plans to tear down the two-story concourse that stands between the mall’s west and east end. The company purchased the mall in June.

MCB also plans to build spaces for new retailers to replace ones that have left the mall over the years. The owners confirmed in July that Burlington Stores, previously known as Burlington Coat Factory, will be a tenant.

MCB’s managing partner says demolition work should take about three months.
